Katie Brennan | Training Specialist

Throughout my career in education, I’ve had the privilege to witness the incredible impact that one safe adult can have in the life of a child. Since 2002, I have served as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, building administrator, and district administrator, each role providing invaluable experiences. I have had the honor of being the safe adult in the life of a child and witnessing many of my colleagues do the same. My career has led me to have a deeper understanding of the human experience, the ability to navigate the world with great compassion, and the calling to take care of those I meet along the way.

I spent my childhood listening intently to my grandfather share stories of teaching and leading in the field of education. A long time principal for Indianapolis Public Schools, he spoke of his profession with great enthusiasm and joy. I knew from a young age that I wanted to follow in his footsteps and that leading in the field of education would be my life's purpose.

In 2018, I had the honor of bringing HopeAlight and TBRI to a district where I was formerly employed. I knew after my first TBRI training that this was different from any other professional learning experience that I had ever attended. I was changed for the better both professionally and personally. TBRI has provided a deep understanding of the power we hold to make a difference in the life of a child, strategies for authentic and meaningful connections, and a great HOPE for the future.

TBRI was the beginning of a journey that I have continued to live out in all areas of my life.  I am honored to join the HopeAlight Team and committed to walking alongside others as they embrace TBRI and all the beauty that it has to offer.

Education

I studied education at Indiana University, Purdue University, Indianapolis and graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in 2002.  In 2008, I completed the Prospective Principal Program and earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership.  During the summer of 2019, I went back to school at Butler University and completed a graduate level program to earn a certificate in Applied Educational Neuroscience with an emphasis on Adversity/Trauma and the brain.

Family:

My husband Eric and I reside in Greenwood with our two kids, L.J. and Lexie, and our two pups, Birdie and Bogey. I love following my kids around to sporting events and cheering for them and their teammates! As a family, we enjoy watching I.U. basketball and rooting on the Indiana Pacers.
